Section Modulus:

Section modulus is defined as the ratio of moment of inertia of a beam about its C.G to the maximum distance of extreme x-section of the beam (Ymax).

Mathematically, Z = I/ymax

Moment of inertia and the maximum distance of neutral axis from top fiber for a rectangular beam is given by,

I = bd3/12 and ymax = d/2

Hence, Z = bd2/6

**Calculation:**

Given,

b = 200 mm, d = 350 mm

∵ We know, Z = bd^{2}/6

⇒ Z = (200 × 350^{2})/6

Z = 4.08 × 106 mm3
